Quick controls, clearer status, and more reliable button presses. Changes from version 1.0.0.

Version 1.1.0 is now available in the Chrome Web Store. Use any Add to Chrome link on this page to install it.

New in this version

  • Quick controls, right on the page. See your bindings and combos, open the keyboard or settings, and pause controls using your gamepad.
  • Pause a tab or disable a website. A tab pause clears on reload. Website preferences sync with your Chrome profile.
  • A shortcut to get back in control. Hold Back + Start (Share + Options) for one second to open quick controls, resume a paused tab, or re-enable a disabled site.
  • A guide for your first session. New installations open a short walkthrough. Reopen it anytime from the popup or settings.

Improvements & fixes

  • Short taps register reliably. Quick presses are no longer discarded while checking for a button combo.
  • Know what is working. The popup shows controller connection, page availability, and whether controls are active, paused, or disabled. Status keeps refreshing after changes.
  • Settings save more safely. Binding edits preserve newer website preferences. Saving, success, and error messages make the result clear.
  • Cleaner transitions. Closing an overlay no longer lets additional button presses trigger actions on the webpage.
A note about shortcuts

Home / Guide opens quick controls by default when the operating system makes it available. Existing customized button mappings are preserved. Back + Start is reserved for recovery and takes priority over combos containing both buttons; release both before navigating the menu.

Which controllers are supported?

Any controller recognized by Chrome’s Gamepad API should work, including Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, and most generic USB or Bluetooth gamepads.

Does it work on every website?

It works on normal webpages. Chrome blocks extensions from running on its own internal pages, the Web Store, and the default New Tab page.

Can I change the default controls?

Yes. Every button can be remapped, and you can add multi-button combos, custom key presses, or shortcuts that open a specific website.

Is my browsing data collected?

Couch Controller does not collect browsing history or send usage analytics. No account is required. Your preferences, including disabled-site choices, use Chrome’s sync storage and can sync through your Google account.

Does it cost anything?

No. Couch Controller is free and open source.
